From its humble beginnings in a small workshop in 1963, Inditex has progressively grown into one of the largest fashion retailers in the world. Founder and owner Amancio Ortega Gaona opened the company’s first headquarters in the town of Arteixo in the province of Galicia, Spain. After 12 years of work and dedication, Inditex opened its first store and brand, Zara which is now a popular high street brand with over 2,000 stores worldwide including a local Zara store in the popular La Zenia Boulevard shopping centre. This was the launching pad for the company which has continued to expand year after year and now boasts a total of 8 high street brands and 6,700 stores spanning 88 countries.
Tempe Textile Group, Elche, Spain
In 1989 Inditex launched its Tempe Group in the town of Elche in the province of Alicante, Spain. The Tempe Group was set up to design and distribute the footwear and accessories of Inditex retail chains and over a period of time the Tempe Group has grown to such an extent that it now manages the footwear and accessories for the entire Inditex Group brands. The town of Elche is one of the main footwear manufacturing areas in Spain, making it an ideal choice for Tempe to base its central services centre along with 2 logistics centres. These centres take up an area of 180,000 m2 and distribute a staggering 50 million pairs of shoes each year to destinations throughout the world. Inditex take a keen interest in environmental issues and have implemented a Global Sustainability Strategy throughout each one of their groups. In 2011 the Tempe Group’s retail outlet in Elche received an ”A” energy rating, the highest efficiency rating possible, becoming the first commercial establishment in the Valencia community to achieve this rating.
Inditex Brands & Continued Success
A leading factor in Inditex’ continued success and expansion is that each one of its 8 brands, Zara, Massimo Dutti, Pull & Bear, Bershka, Zara Home, Stradivarius, Uterque and Oysho have a dedicated customer service department and share the same business and management strategy.
