With the New Area Terminal, the airport will increase its capacity to 20 millions passengers, Alicante airport opens a new door to the sky which will settle it up as a reference in The Mediterranean area.
This new building converts Alicante airport in a reference with capacity for 6.000 passengers per hour and 20 millions a year, with scheduled flights to 75 national and internationals cities.
The launching of the New Area Terminal has the goal of increasing its development and also to adapt the airport installations to the air traffic expected to 2020, which is estimated in 19 millions of passengers.
This mean of transport is a key point in the touristic and economic growth in the region, so the air traffic has grow up in the last years from 6,5 millions people in 2001 to 9,3 millions in 2010.
The importance of this infrastructure in the tourism is reflected in the passengers percentage in the International flights, the eight per cent of the total. UK, Germany and Holland are the countries that contribute more passengers. Furthermore, the regular national traffic has increased in the last years. Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca are the most demanded destinies.
