Beaches Of Orihuela Costa
December 5, 2015The Blue Flag Beaches Of Orihuela Costa
The beautiful beaches of the Orihuela Costa stretch from the popular seaside resort of Punta Prima to the prestigious area of Campoamor. The entire area is connected by a scenic coastal path that offers wonderful views as it winds its way through hidden coves, secluded bays, sand dunes backed by pine forests and lofty cliff tops. For its size, Orihuela Costa has recently been recognised as having the highest number of Blue Flag Award beaches in Alicante. This makes the Orihuela Costa and surrounding areas highly sought after among holidaymakers and those that are in the market to purchase property in Spain. Within walking distance from the beaches there are a host of amenities, shops, bars, restaurants and commercial centres. The beach and marina areas offer a wide range of water sports and there are sports centres and world class golf courses within a 10 minute drive from the coast.
Punta Prima Beach
Punta Prima beach offers visitors a nice mix of sandy bays and rocky coves that are a favourite with snorkelers and fishermen. Walking along this part of the coastal path takes you past 2 extremely popular beach bars, aptly named Sunrise, they entertain a devoted crowd of expat’s and holidaymakers with chilled music, 1,40€ pints of beer and views to die for. Punta Prima borders the outskirts of Torrevieja, and the coastal path continues all the way to the town’s centre where there are a choice of 3 beaches, a pleasant promenade and lovely marina. Closely located to Punta Prima beach are many popular restaurants you can also find the busy urbanisations of Señorio de Punta Prima & Rocio del Mar.
Other Popular Beaches in Orihuela Costa
Continuing south along the path, the gentle walk brings you to the busiest of Orihuela Costa’s beach towns, Playa Flamenca. There are 2 main beaches with golden sand and great facilities such as quaint beach hut bars serving a choice of drinks, cocktails, pizzas, snacks and ice creams. Water sports abound and there are thatched parasols & sun loungers, beach volleyball, rope climbing frames, showers & WC’s. The lovely La Zenia beach enjoys similar facilities, and just a short walk takes you to the famous La Zenia Boulevard, the largest shopping centre in the Alicante province. The Boulevard houses over 150 shops, boutiques, cafes, bars and restaurants, many of which provide fantastic ocean views. There are takeaway joints such as Burger King, churros & waffle stands, tasty sushi bars and sweets galore. With excellent adult entertainment, exciting kids rides and water fountains, the Boulevard makes for a great day out. A short drive from the super Bouelvard is Villamartin Plaza where you can find more great bars, restaurants and nightlife.
The popular Cabo Roig strip continues our coastal walk and runs parallel to the N332 dual carriageway, it is home to the most famous bar on the Orihuela Costa. ”Bushwacka Bar” entertains holidaymakers and locals all year round with its cheap drink options and banging music, bringing in hoards of faithful followers. Just behind the strip is the beach area, much loved by midnight Don Juan’s and Scandinavian swimmers. The coastal path sort of peters out as it gets to Campoamor, but the Blue Flag beaches offer an amazing collection of luxury properties and pretty green areas.
This brings us to the end of the Orihuela Costa beach areas, please wear flip flops & beach clothing.
